Perhaps it is true that some people are tailor-made for Bollywood. A Mangalore beauty and a British-Indian charmer have found their paths crossed in the Hindi film industry. And not surprisingly, both have limited histrionic skills. But the magic of Bollywood is such that, if you have a good face, a sculpted figure and the right contacts (boyfriends, ex-BFFs or The Family), you can be right there - at the top.

Katrina Kaif made them go 'wow' with her modeling assignments. Aishwarya Rai was Miss World - a stunner. While Mrs Rai (now part of the big B family) has since then put on the mandatory with-age extra pounds, Katrina looks as light as feather. A perfect ten for both in the looks department!

Sartorial Elegance

Aishwarya Rai was once the 'Vidya Balan' for the fashion paparazzi. They would spot the oddest of odds in her spectacular wardrobe, and rip her apart. She has learnt the lesson, and is now grace personified - be it on the red carpet or at the Oscars.
Katrina Kaif continues to be the delight of the Page 3 hacks. Can she ever go wrong? Her jawaani scorches even in her simplest outfit.

Versatility

The gullible, suffering, lost lover-housewife is what suits Aishwarya the most - and that is as far as she can get. Challenge her with a demanding role and all you get are pouts, lost looks, and eyes filled with pent-up frustration.
Katrina's best bet could have been 'Rajneeti,' and she proved that there is only one she can be trusted with - which means, being the beautiful prop for heroes to romance, dance with and generally goof around.
In all fairness, at least Aishwariya's Hindi accent is bearable, compared to the British-born-confused-Desi sound of Katrina Kaif.

Dance to grace

Give 'Sheila Ki Jawaani' to Katrina and reserve the classical footwork to Aishwarya. But as they say, in Bollywood, they can make anyone dance - even Mithun Chakraborty, with his protruding hip movement (God help us all).

Media savvy

It must be in their looks; is the media intimidated by these two beautiful women? Why do the Indian media like to rip them apart at the drop of the hat? And apparently, neither Aishwarya nor Katrina finds enough reason to trust the sensation-seeking press. They would rather do their monthly fix with the 'friendly fare'.

Love life

Mysterious the way Bollywood's love tree works; some people simply find drawn to the same magnet - until they discover that there is life and meaning beyond muscles and attitude.

Choice of roles

Aishwarya Rai had a dream start with Mani Ratnam, who has been a loyal director, trusting her even with his 'Rashomon' mis-adventure. From 'Iruvar' to 'Ravan', Aishwarya got perhaps the most plum roles ever made in Bollywood. Did she do justice to her roles? We reserve our comments.
Katrina perhaps had no misconceptions about what awaits her in Bollywood. Was any role tailor made for Katrina and Katrina only? In all fairness, Bollywood could have given her a miss and we wouldn't have noticed. Her roles could have suited any one - from Lara to Priyanka to any of those ambitious starlets

Hero stuff

Age, even Aishwarya, might be realizing now, is beyond conquest. A Ranbir Kapoor or Imran Khan is now out of question for Aishwarya - unless she decides to play their 'didi' or 'maa'. Katrina has time to her side; she can romance even Ranveer Singh, and we could approve.
However, both women share the same failed consistency of the heroes they fall for in their movies - Aishwarya Rai with Abhishek Bachchan, (who she has now settled for), and Katrina Kaif with Akshay Kumar (we don't see any harm, but critics may think otherwise) - we give them stability points - Aishwarya: 2 and Katrina: 1
